Launch of Digital TVET Hub to Train Future Digital Talents

By Subaashinee Kupusamy,

24 October: The growing need for skilled professionals in Malaysia’s digital sector is being addressed with the launch of the Digital TVET & Careers Hub in Kuala Langat. Spearheaded by TVETAA, a body committed to advancing technical and vocational education, this initiative aims to equip the workforce with essential digital skills. The launch was officiated by Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Anak Kumbong on September 26.

“The demand for skilled digital talent is surging due to both local and international investments. Emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, cloud computing, and cybersecurity are transforming the future of work,” said Wilson Ugak, highlighting findings from the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2023.

The Digital TVET & Careers Hub addresses this gap by providing industry-recognised qualifications tailored to the evolving needs of the digital economy. TVETAA managing director, Datuk Bruce Lim Aun Choong, said the hub creates a seamless talent pipeline by partnering with industry leaders, educational institutions, and digital training providers.

Major companies, along with the Malaysia Digital Chamber of Commerce (MDCC), have committed to supporting the hub by establishing industry labs and resources. The hub aims to be a “finishing school,” offering academic learning alongside hands-on upskilling to prepare students for real-world digital careers.

This collaboration shortens traditional educational pathways, aligning them more closely with industry requirements. According to Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) senior vice president Raymond Siva, this approach accelerates the production of industry-ready talent while keeping up with technological advancements.

Agreements were signed during the event between TVETAA and institutions such as Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), various polytechnics, and GiatMARA centres as stated in The Star.
