Law to Fine Men Trespassing on Women’s Coach Being Drafted
By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran,
Kuala Lumpur, 16th August – The Malaysian government is in the process of drafting a law that will impose fines on men who trespass into women-only coaches on trains. Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced the move, emphasizing the importance of respecting the privacy and safety of women in these designated spaces.
This initiative comes after numerous complaints from women who feel uncomfortable and unsafe when men enter these areas. The current practice involves issuing warnings, but the government aims to introduce stricter penalties to ensure compliance. Loke mentioned that public transportation operators are working closely with the ministry to implement this law effectively, including improved signage and announcements to inform passengers of the regulations.
The law is part of a broader effort to enhance safety and comfort for women using public transport in Malaysia. It is expected to be introduced soon, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing public concerns and promoting a respectful and secure environment for all passengers, as stated in New Straits Times
