Lorry Driver Arrested After 10-Vehicle Pile-Up in Seremban, Tests Positive for Methamphetamine

19th September 2024 – A tragic 10-vehicle pile-up occurred on September 18, 2024, in Seremban, Malaysia, when a lorry driver lost control near the Bidara traffic light intersection, leading to a devastating crash. The 38-year-old driver, now in police custody, tested positive for methamphetamine, raising concerns about drug use among commercial vehicle drivers. The accident claimed the life of a 31-year-old man, who was trapped in his vehicle, and left a 48-year-old woman critically injured. Several others sustained minor injuries.
Authorities report that the lorry driver, unable to control the heavy vehicle, caused the massive collision involving nine other cars. Emergency services worked tirelessly to free the trapped victims, but unfortunately, the 31-year-old man succumbed to his injuries on the scene. The critically injured woman was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with driving under the influence of substances. The driver is currently in police custody, pending further action. Authorities expect him to be remanded for additional questioning and legal proceedings.
