Malaysia Shines at Worldskills Competition 2024 With Bronze and Four ‘Medallion

16 SEPTEMBER: Malaysia made a remarkable impression at the WorldSkills Competition (WSC) 2024, securing a bronze medal and four Medallion for Excellence awards at the prestigious event, held from September 10 to 15 at Groupama Stadium in Lyon.
In the Beauty Therapy category, Wong Hsun Wel clinched the bronze medal and was honored as “Best of Nation” during the closing ceremony. Overjoyed with her achievement, Wong expressed gratitude for the support of her teachers. “I am thrilled and grateful to my teachers for guiding me through many competitions,” she said.
Malaysia’s impressive performance also saw four competitors receiving the Medallion for Excellence, an award recognizing outstanding skills. Muhammad Nasran Ahmad in Hairdressing, Ahmad Muizuddin Mohd Razi in Bricklaying, Muhammad Hakimi Abu Bakar in Electrical Installations, and Stephen Sim Shan Siong in IT Software Solutions for Business were the proud recipients. Reflecting on his experience, Muhammad Nasran said, “Although I only received the Medallion for Excellence, I am grateful, as it is difficult to achieve at the international level.”
The WSC 2024 saw the participation of 1,400 competitors from over 70 countries across 62 skill categories. Malaysia fielded 15 skilled youths in 14 categories, ranging from Robot System Integration to Heavy Vehicle Technology.
As a gesture of encouragement, the Malaysian government awarded cash incentives to winners, with RM10,000 for a bronze medal and RM4,000 for Medallion for Excellence recipients. The next WorldSkills event will be held in Shanghai in 2026 as stated in Bernama.
