1st OCTOBER: At the launch of Google’s new data centre in Malaysia, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the country’s initiative to establish a national cloud policy. This policy aims to enhance digital infrastructure, promote economic growth, and improve the efficiency of public services through cloud technology.

Anwar highlighted that the national cloud policy will facilitate the integration of cloud services across various sectors, enabling businesses to innovate and compete on a global scale. He emphasized the importance of digital transformation in driving Malaysia’s economic recovery and growth post-pandemic.

The Prime Minister noted that the data centre, which represents a significant investment by Google, is expected to create thousands of jobs and attract further investment in the tech sector. He expressed confidence that this development will bolster Malaysia’s position as a regional digital hub.

In addition to economic benefits, Anwar stressed the need for responsible data governance and cybersecurity measures, ensuring that the transition to cloud services safeguards user privacy and data integrity.

The government’s focus on digitalization aligns with its broader vision of fostering a more inclusive and sustainable economy. Anwar concluded by urging collaboration between the public and private sectors to maximize the potential of the national cloud policy, ultimately benefiting Malaysian citizens and businesses alike, as stated in Malaymail.
