Malaysian Builds Tao Temple in Chennai
By Subaashinee Kupusamy,
19 SEPTEMBER: Mak Siew Fong, a Malaysian Chinese, followed his Tao path to build the Huan De temple in Chennai. His journey into Taoism began 40 years ago, and he committed to its way of life after 12 years. Guided by his Tao elders, he embarked on a mission to share the Universal Truth by building the temple.
The temple offers a space for all faiths to explore Tao’s teachings without religious conversion. It promotes core values like vegetarianism and universal spiritual truths. Volunteers maintain the temple, funded by donations and the sale of tofu as a cruelty-free alternative to dairy. Through this, Mak brings people together, allowing them to deepen their own faiths while understanding Tao’s broader philosophy.
The temple is a testament to Mak’s belief that every religion shares universal truths, expressed uniquely across cultures and times. His vision fosters respect, spiritual growth, and unity as stated in Astro Ulagam.
