29th October: K. Kaartik and his wife, N. Rekka, have captivated Malaysians through their engaging social media content, portraying the daily experiences of families from the B40 income group. Their Tamil-language videos, shared on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, offer an authentic view of life’s simple moments, resonating with a diverse audience of over 300,000 followers, 90% of whom are from the Malay community.
Initially created without subtitles, their videos quickly gained traction, prompting Kaartik to add translations, allowing a broader audience to connect with their content. This accessibility helped people relate deeply to their narratives, which often touch on family dynamics, cultural values, and the joy of meaningful relationships beyond material wealth.
Balancing his work as a lorry driver and father of five, Kaartik, with Rekka’s support, films late at night to avoid disturbing neighbours. Their youngest children even assist with filming and editing, fostering family unity.
The couple’s humble and humorous storytelling provides a refreshing counter to more commercialized content, often easing viewers’ “Monday blues” with timely videos. Inspired by the strong response, Kaartik and Rekka are now aiming to build an influencer agency, hoping to uplift more voices within Malaysia’s B40 community as stated in Astro Ulagam.
