9 OCTOBER: Malaysian twin sisters have achieved international recognition by winning the prestigious Gold Award at the 2024 Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition. The sisters, Nur Aisyah and Nur Alyssa Sofea, were lauded for their compelling essays on this year’s theme of climate action and youth responsibility.
Representing Malaysia, the twins were among thousands of participants from around the Commonwealth who competed in the world’s oldest international writing competition for young people. Their essays reflected their passion for environmental sustainability and the role of the younger generation in combating climate change.
The twins’ success not only highlights their individual talent but also shines a spotlight on Malaysia’s emerging youth writers in the global arena. The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, established in 1883, continues to foster creative expression and leadership among young writers. Winners are selected based on originality, creativity, and the ability to engage readers with thought-provoking narratives.
Their achievement was celebrated by many in Malaysia, with calls for more youth to participate in such international platforms. The recognition serves as an inspiration for young Malaysians to pursue their writing ambitions while raising awareness about critical global issues.
The twins will now have their essays featured in prominent publications, and their voices will contribute to the ongoing global discussions on climate action as stated in FMT.
