24 SEPTEMBER: Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin made headlines by winning the men’s doubles title at the China Open, marking Malaysia’s first victory in this category in 35 years. The pair triumphed over China’s Ren Xiang Yu and He Ji Ting with scores of 13-21, 21-12, 21-17, showcasing resilience as they came from behind.
Earlier, Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai finished as runners-up in the mixed doubles final. Despite their loss, the day highlighted Malaysia’s strong badminton presence, as Goh and Izzuddin celebrated their second title in recent weeks, having won the Japan Open just three weeks prior as stated in Stadium Astro.
