Malaysia’s King to Embark on State Visit to China

18th September 2024 –Malaysia’s King, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, will begin a state visit to China from Sept 19 to 22, following an invitation from President Xi Jinping. This is His Majesty’s first state visit since assuming the throne on Jan 31, 2024, marking the strong ties between Malaysia and China, which have grown since 2013’s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Accompanying the King will be Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Housing Minister Nga Kor Ming, and senior officials. A ceremonial welcome will be held at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, followed by an audience with President Xi and a state banquet in His Majesty’s honor. Premier Li Qiang will also have an audience with the King.
During the visit, His Majesty will attend the naming of the Chair of Malay Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University and meet the Malaysian diaspora. The trip coincides with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations, celebrated with events like commemorative stamps, coins, and a coffee table book.
China remains Malaysia’s largest trading partner, with 2023 trade valued at RM450.84 billion. In 2024’s first half, trade reached RM234.09 billion. Additionally, 24 manufacturing projects worth RM3.4 billion were approved in early 2024, as stated in Bernama
