6 SEPTEMBER: A male elephant was tragically killed after being hit by a trailer on Jalan Sri Timur, Kampung Gajah, Kluang, last night.
Kluang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh, reported that the incident occurred at approximately 10:45 PM. The trailer, driven by a 53-year-old man, was traveling from Mersing towards Kahang Timur when the elephant suddenly crossed the road.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver did not suffer any injuries. The elephant, however, emerged from the left side of the road and was struck as it attempted to cross,” said Bahrin in a statement.
The impact of the collision killed the elephant instantly. Following the incident, the police contacted the Johor Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) to manage the removal of the animal’s carcass.
The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, as the driver is believed to have failed to control the vehicle properly, leading to the accident.
