12th September 2024 – In a tragic turn of events, a man uncovered his father’s skeleton in their apartment at Taman Usaha, Kepong, after four years of presumed absence. The son, identified only as 41-year-old Goh, had been living in the same apartment without realizing his father had passed away in one of the rooms.
Authorities believe the father, an 84-year-old retiree, died in 2019. Goh initially told police that he had assumed his father had left the home, as they had been living separately within the same unit. It wasn’t until the apartment management intervened, concerned about overdue rent, that the grim discovery was made.
Goh, who allegedly suffers from a mental disorder, had been living in squalor.
Upon inspecting the home, the authorities found piles of trash, and the skeleton was discovered beneath layers of waste in one of the rooms. Investigations indicate no foul play, and the case has been classified as sudden death.
The incident highlights the struggles of mental health and social isolation, with neighbors and management unaware of the man’s situation. Efforts to trace his relatives are ongoing, as authorities work to identify any family members who might assist in Goh’s care following this traumatic event.
The case continues to raise concerns about mental health awareness and community vigilance, as stated in New Straits Times.
