Mitra funds: Hindu Sangam condemns arrest of 2 members by MACC
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22: The Malaysia Hindu Sangam has condemned the arrest of two of its members by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in related to an investigation into alleged misuse of Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) funds.
According to FMT, the association’s lawyer, Rajesh Nagarajan said that the funds were not misused and the money has been returned to Mitra.
“The Malaysia Hindu Sangam’s stand is that they did not misuse any funds and have in fact returned the money to Mitra,” he was quoted as saying by FMT.
“The Malaysia Hindu Sangam officials are witnesses. They will always cooperate with the authorities. So, I do not see why they need to arrest their members.”
However, he could not confirm the amount of money involved, the report added.
According to reports, a company director and an association president were among 22 individuals detained by the MACC in operations carried out in seven states on Thursday to assist in the investigations into the misappropriation of Mitra funds.
