Modi inaugurates memorial in Birsa Munda’s honour
Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated a museum in Ranchi on Monday in honour of famous tribal independence fighter Birsa Munda, also known as Dharti Aaba.
According to The Indian Express, the prime minister told a virtual assembly that Dharti Aaba did not live long, but he created a whole history for the country and provided guidance to future generations of Indians.
In his homage, Modi stated that he fought against the philosophy that sought to obliterate the identity of India’s tribal society.
Bhagwan Birsa understood that fighting diversity in the name of modernity, messing with ancient identity and nature, was not the path to societal well-being. “He was for contemporary education, he fought for reform, and he had the bravery to speak out against the flaws in his own society,” the prime minister added.
Modi dedicated the Birsa Munda Memorial Udyan and Museum to the country, congratulating inhabitants of the state and tribal society.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Union Minister Arjun Munda, and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi were among those in attendance at the event, which took place on Jharkhand Statehood Day.
The museum is located in Ranchi’s Old Central Jail, where the tribal icon passed away. Munda’s statue, at 25 feet tall, has been placed.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the project was created in collaboration with the Jharkhand government.
It illustrates tribals’ effort to safeguard their woods, land rights, and culture, as well as their valour and sacrifices, which is critical for nation-building, according to the PMO.
The museum will also feature tribal independence fighters such as Budhu Bhagat, Sidhu-Kanhu, Nilambar-Pitambar, Diwa-Kisun, Telanga Khadiya, Gaya Munda, Jatra Bhagat, Poto H, Bhagirath Manjhi, and Ganga Narayan Singh in addition to Munda.
The memorial park was built on an adjacent 25-acre plot of land and includes a musical fountain, food court, children’s park, infinity pool, garden, and other attractions.
