PUTRAJAYA, 02 December 2025: The Education Ministry will introduce six new subjects under the revamped 2027 national school curriculum, aiming to enhance hands-on learning, interdisciplinary thinking and character-building from the earliest stages of schooling. The update reinforces core competencies while preparing students for a more technology-driven future.
In a briefing, Curriculum Development Division director Nooraini Kamaruddin said the additional subjects are designed to help pupils connect concepts across science, arts, health, TVET and digital literacy. She emphasised that the shift prioritises learning by doing, rather than memorisation.
New subjects planned for 2027
Primary School
Level 1 (Years 1–2): Alam dan Manusia: Pembelajaran Bersepadu
Level 2 (Years 3–4): Eksplorasi Sains dan Teknologi: Pembelajaran Bersepadu & Eksplorasi Seni dan Dunia: Pembelajaran Bersepadu
Primary (General): Teknologi dan Digital (TnD) offered across primary levels & Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia (BIM) introduced from Year 1 in selected schools with integrated special education programmes
Secondary School: Bahasa Arab Komunikasi introduced in Form 1 for daily and residential schools (excluding religious residential schools)
Nooraini said BIM will be rolled out gradually as an additional subject to better support students with hearing impairments. She stressed that although assessments are being strengthened, the reform does not reinstate UPSR or PT3. Major national examinations such as SPM will remain, but school-based evaluations will play a bigger role.
Under the updated system, pupils in preschool to Year 2 will be assessed across three performance levels: Know, Understand and Do. From Year 3 to secondary school, a fourth level Apply will be added to measure higher-order competencies.
