Thailand, 15th August : A mother elephant playfully flipped a parked SUV in Thailand’s Khao Yai National Park on August 14, 2024. The incident occurred near the park’s Pha Kluai Mai campground when the elephant, accompanied by her calf, approached the vehicle. Visitors nearby captured the event on video, showing the elephant using her trunk to push the SUV before lifting it with her tusks and flipping it onto its side.
Park officials confirmed that no one was inside the vehicle during the incident, and there were no injuries. The elephant did not appear aggressive but seemed to be exploring or playing with the unfamiliar object in her environment.
Such encounters between elephants and vehicles are not uncommon in Khao Yai National Park, where elephants roam freely. Officials advised visitors to maintain a safe distance from wildlife and follow the park’s guidelines to avoid disturbing the animals.
The flipped SUV sustained significant damage, and the park authorities have reminded visitors to be cautious and park in designated areas away from potential elephant paths. The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of wild animals and the importance of respecting their space, especially in natural habitats like Khao Yai National Park.
This event highlights the ongoing challenge of human-wildlife interactions in areas where natural environments and tourism intersect, underscoring the need for continued efforts to ensure both human safety and wildlife conservation, as stated in the Star.
