Motorcyclist Killed After Stopping at Red Light, Hit by Driver Under Influence

24th September 2024: A motorcyclist tragically lost his life after being struck by a car while waiting at a red traffic light in Taman Bercham Aman. The victim, identified as a 25-year-old man, was stopped at a junction when a Proton Persona, driven by a 27-year-old man, suddenly rammed into him.

According to authorities, the driver of the car was found to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident. The collision caused the motorcyclist to be thrown off his vehicle and suffer severe injuries, leading to his death at the scene.

Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan confirmed that the driver has been arrested for further investigation. Preliminary tests conducted at the police station confirmed the presence of drugs in his system. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with reckless driving that results in death.

Authorities are urging the public to be vigilant and mindful on the road, stressing the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the potentially fatal consequences of such reckless behavior, as stated in Berita Harian.
