KUALA LUMPUR, 7 February: The National Sports Council (NSC) Management Board Meeting approved a pay adjustment and new remunerations for the National Coach Working Scheme (SPJK) from January 1, 2024.
According to a statement from the NSC Communication Corporate Branch, a meeting chaired by Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh approved a salary increase for full-time coaches working for the Podium Programme and National Backing Athletes based on their level of qualification under the National Coaching Certificate Scheme (SPKK) and years of coaching experience.
According to the announcement, the salary rise applies to coaches who hold the SPKK Level 3 Certificate, the highest level authorised by the National Coaching Academy (AKK). Following the recently authorised adjustment, their salary will increase from RM4,500 to RM5,900 per month.
“To encourage more former national athletes to coach, the additional salary will be based on the athlete’s highest success. For example, a former athlete who becomes a full-time coach-a medalist in the Olympic or Paralympic Games will be paid an additional RM3,500.00 per month, while a medalist in the World Championship will be paid an additional RM3,000.00,” according to the statement.
Meanwhile, a special payment of RM600.00 has been granted for all coaches in the Podium Programme and National Backing Athletes (excluding coaches on secondment or dismissed from their company), and the part-time coach salary will be increased based on SPKK qualification.
“The adjustment of the National Coach Working Scheme was approved as an improvement to the existing rates in the scheme that was last reviewed in 2014” as stated in Malaysia World News.
