“NEED TO TEACH BOYS TO RESPECT WOMEN”: HIGH COURT ON SEX ASSAULT CASES

29th August : The Bombay High Court said today during the hearing of a petition on the matter of sexual assault on two four-year-olds inside their school in Badlapur, Maharashtra, that males’ attitudes need to be modified and they should be taught to respect women. ( Source Hindustan Times )
“When the boys are young, you have to influence their perspective. Teach children to respect women and people of other genders,” Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithiviraj Chavan remarked in a division bench. ( Source Hindustan Times )
“Male chauvinism and dominance still exist. Nothing will change unless we teach equality to our kids at home. All of these laws, including Nirbhaya, will not come effective till then, the bench declared. We talk about ladies all the time. Why don’t we establish moral boundaries with boys? Boys’ perspectives need to be altered while they are still young. Instruct them to honor women,” it stated. ( Source Hindustan Times )
Destroy the idea that men should respect women just because of we are their daughters, mothers and sisters. Reinforce the idea that men should men should respect women because we are people.
The court that heard the case on a suo moto (on its own) basis stated that “male chauvinism” still exists in our culture and that education on equality is the first step toward making changes. ( Source Hindustan Times )
The police in this instance made mistakes, which the judge harshly criticized. “The Badlapur police disregard the law’s mission. At the police station, they made an effort to record the victim girl’s statements. The requirement is being completely disregarded. It stated, “It is utterly inappropriate and illegal to ask the victim and her parents to come to the police station for a statement recording. ( Source Hindustan Times )
