Kuala Lumpur, May 30: Nepalese army claimed on Monday that it has found the crash site of an airplane that went missing with 22 passengers on board on Sunday amid overcast weather, according to Astro Awani.
“Search and rescue soldiers have physically discovered the airplane accident site,” army spokesperson Narayan Silwal claimed on Twitter, showing a photo of the wreckage with the flight’s tail number plainly visible and fragments of the plane dispersed on the side of a mountain.
As per the airline and administration officials, 4 Indians, 2 Germans, and 16 Nepalis were on board the airplane, a De Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 Twin Otter managed by privately run Tara Air. The plane had been flying for 20 minutes when it lost communication with the control tower.
As stated by Astro Awani, it took off from Pokhara, 125 kilometres (80 miles) west of Kathmandu, and was intended for Jomsom, roughly 80 kilometres (50 miles) northwest of Pokhara, a major visitor and pilgrimage location.
According to the flight-tracking site Flightradar24, the aircraft, registered 9N-AET, had its first flight in April 1979. According to Deo Chandra Lal Karna, a representative for the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), 5 helicopters are prepared to assist in the rescue effort.
