Kuala Lumpur, 18th August – A new freight train service connecting Selangor, Malaysia, and Yunnan, China, is expected to boost trade between the two nations.
Launched on August 15, 2024, the service is anticipated to enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of transporting goods. The train route, covering over 3,000 kilometers, links the Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s Free Commercial Zone with Kunming, Yunnan’s capital.
This development is seen as a significant step in strengthening Malaysia-China economic ties, particularly in facilitating the export and import of goods such as electronics, machinery, and perishable items.
The service, part of the Belt and Road Initiative, aims to provide a reliable alternative to traditional sea routes, offering faster delivery times.
It is expected to support Malaysia’s efforts to become a key logistics hub in Southeast Asia. The initiative also aligns with China’s strategy to expand its influence and economic presence in the region.
Malaysian officials are optimistic that this new freight connection will increase bilateral trade and investment opportunities, further solidifying the partnership between Malaysia and China, as stated in The Star.
