NGOs slam attack against Hindu temples in Bangladesh

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24: A delegation of ten people from various Hindu-based NGOs and temples from Malaysia handed over a memorandum to the Bangladesh High Commission here condemning the attacks against Hindu temples in Bangladesh.
The Head of Welfare department, United Malaysian Hindu Voice (UMHV) P. Manurchna said that the NGO along with various Hindu-based NGOs and temples of Malaysia handed over the memorandum on Monday.
The memorandum was submitted following the incident of temples in Rupsha Upazila, Bangladesh being attacked on Aug 7.
“We United Malaysian Hindu Voice (UMHV) is a National Hindu Non-Government Organization, wish to express our utmost grave concern over the attack on Hindu temples in Bangladesh and protest against such uncivilized barbaric acts against Minority citizens of the country,” Manurachna told The Hindu Press.
The memorandum stated that: “We would like to highlight on the previous incident where at least 15 Hindu temples in Bangladesh have been vandalized, triggering panic among the minority community in the Muslim-majority nation on 30th October 2016.
“The temples in Brahmanbarhia district’s Nasirnagar were vandalized and over 100 houses of Hindus in the area have also been looted and after the mayhem for hours, two temples in adjacent Habiganj’s Madhabpur also came under attack.
“Bangladesh must remember that the world is watching these atrocities happening to the minority Hindus in your country. As a small representative of the Hindu religion from all over the world, we are protesting against the act referred to the above subject for respective authorities to take the required action.
“This concern is brought up to bring peace and harmony to the whole world with various religions which could avoid unnecessary religious wars over the world,”
“We hope that no more violence or suppression, in any form, is perpetrated against Hindus or other minorities in Bangladesh.
“We also demand a public apology from Bangladesh’s Honourable Prime Minister, as well as a commitment from him to take appropriate long-term measures to ensure that such heinous acts do not occur again.
“We would like to show our highest respect to the authorities who would be able to act as requested above. Your cooperation is highly appreciated.
“Let us show peace all together for a better harmony world.,” the memorandum reads.
