One Killed in Three-Vehicle Accident in Pontian

9th September 2024 – A man in his 50s was killed in a three-vehicle accident at Kilometer 16, Johor Bahru-Batu Pahat Road, near Pekan Nanas, Pontian.
The incident happened at 9:10 p.m. when a Hino lorry lost control and veered into the opposite lane. It collided with a Toyota Camry driven by the victim.
Pontian District Police Chief Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib reported that the victim died at the scene from severe head injuries. Fire and Rescue personnel were called to the location to extract the victim, who was trapped in his car.
After hitting the Toyota Camry, the lorry then struck a Proton Persona coming from the same direction. Fortunately, the Proton Persona driver was not seriously injured.
The victim’s body was sent to Pontian Hospital for a post-mortem, while the lorry driver, who sustained minor injuries, was also taken to the hospital. Police are investigating the accident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving, especially in accident-prone areas, to avoid unnecessary incidents, as stated in Berita Harian.
