PERAK SULTAN: PRIORITIZE EACH OTHER’S HUMANITY OVER RELIGION

By Nityaasini Sivagami

KUALA LUMPUR 8TH AUGUST : The Sultan of Perak has affirmed that every Malaysian is entitled to their place in the country, irrespective of race, religion, or location. Sultan Nazrin highlighted the importance of promoting the value of all human lives, especially since some individuals have been viewed as less deserving due to their skin color and religion (The Star).

During his speech at the Human Dignity Conference for Southeast Asia, Sultan Nazrin emphasized that everyone, regardless of faith or background, should feel safe, respected, and included not just in their homeland but wherever they go. He pointed out that in some countries, governments persecute specific religious groups, displacing people and imprisoning them based on their religious beliefs (The Star).

He stressed the need to counter hate with inclusion, ignorance with knowledge, and fear with love. Sultan Nazrin commended the conference for addressing the challenge of making a world where everyone is respected and valued a reality (The Star).

The conference, titled “Dignity for Everyone, Everywhere,” is hosted by the International Centre for Law and Religion Studies at Brigham Young University and the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (Bernama).
