24th 2024: Pasukan Gerakan Am (PGA) Briged Tenggara successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 600 kilograms of sugar, valued at RM18,680, near Kampung Pulau Ular, Tumpat, yesterday.
Briged Tenggara PGA Commander, Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid, stated that the seizure occurred at 9 AM during a routine patrol under Op Taring Wawasan by Batalion 9 (PGA9). Officers encountered a suspicious individual driving a Proton Waja. Sensing the presence of authorities, the suspect stopped the vehicle at the roadside and fled into nearby bushes.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers found 600 packets of sugar believed to be intended for smuggling into Thailand. The seized items were handed over to the relevant authorities for further action under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961.
In a separate incident, Batalion 7 (PGA7) seized alcohol worth RM1,440 at an illegal jetty in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, at around 1 PM. The authorities noticed a group of men unloading boxes by the banks of Sungai Golok. Realizing they were spotted, the men fled towards Thailand, leaving behind six boxes containing liquor suspected to be smuggled into the local market.
The case will be investigated under Section 4(1) of the Food Act 1983, and all seized items have been handed over to Komtak Taman Bakti for further action.
Nik Ros Azhan emphasized that efforts to curb smuggling activities along the national border would be intensified through Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan, and the authorities will arrest anyone involved in such illegal activities, as stated in Buletin TV3.
