Piastri of McLaren wins the thrilling Azerbaijan Grand Prix

16 September:The Australian secured an incredible victory in Baku by fending off the Ferrari of pole-sitter Charles Leclerc. Oscar Piastri of McLaren defeated Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari, who had started on pole, to win today’s thrilling Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

George Russell of Mercedes finished third. With seven races and three sprints remaining, Piastri’s teammate Lando Norris finished fourth, cutting Red Bull’s Max Verstappen’s (fifth) lead in the championship to 59 points.As the race came to a conclusion beneath a virtual safety car due to a collision between Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and Sergio Perez (the second Red Bull), there was some late drama on the streets of Baku.

After securing his fourth consecutive pole in Baku, Leclerc maintained the lead until Lap 20, when Piastri quickly passed him.Following a struggle between the Australian and the Monaco man, Piastri managed to secure his second career victory, following his victory in Hungary in July.

The 2024 drivers’ standings are led by Verstappen, who hasn’t won in seven races, with 313 points, followed by Norris, who has gained a point for the fastest lap to go to 254 ahead of this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix.In the race for the constructor’s championship title, McLaren passed Red Bull.
