By Subaashinee Kupusamy,
21 SEPTEMBER: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to visit Kedah today as the flood situation worsens, with 7,469 victims currently sheltering in 42 temporary relief centers (PPS).
Anwar’s visit will begin at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium, where he is expected to arrive at 10:45 a.m. to assess the relief efforts firsthand. Following that, he is scheduled to visit two more PPS—Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMK) Kedah and Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Titi Gajah—to check on the conditions of those affected.
During the visit, Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, is expected to announce federal government aid to support the flood victims, aiming to ease their burden during this challenging time.
As of this morning, the flood situation has worsened, with the number of evacuees increasing to 7,469 from 2,420 families across six districts: Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Bandar Baharu, and Pokok Sena. This marks a rise from the 6,868 victims recorded last night.
The visit reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the ongoing crisis and offering immediate relief to those severely impacted by the floods as stated in Berita Harian.
