PM Anwar Urges Action to Address Sugar Consumption as Malaysia Leads in Diabetes

8th September 2024 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for immediate action to address Malaysia’s high rates of diabetes, which are the highest in Southeast Asia.
He emphasized the importance of reducing sugar consumption to combat obesity and diabetes, advocating for healthier eating habits and regular exercise. Anwar also urged businesses to be mindful of sugar in food preparation and encouraged schools and government functions to promote healthier choices.
He highlighted the need for better health literacy to create long-term societal changes, as stated in Malaymail.
