PM Anwar Urges Discussion on Halal Certification Without Stirring Controversy

8th September 2024 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the importance of addressing suggestions or concerns regarding halal certification in a proper meeting, without provoking unnecessary controversy.
Responding to remarks related to halal certification, he advised that issues, especially those affecting religious and racial sensitivities, should not be used to create division. Instead, thorough discussions should be held to resolve any differences.
This follows the proposal by JAKIM to mandate halal certification for restaurants, sparking concerns about its potential impact on small businesses, as stated in Bernama
