“POCKET ROCKETMAN” AT THE OLYMPICS BREAKS A NEW NATIONAL RECORD

KUALA LUPUR 8TH AUGUST : Azizulhasni Awang, the national track cycling star, set a new national record today in the sprint event qualification round for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Azizulhasni, also known as the Pocket Rocketman, finished 10th overall with a time of 9.402 seconds. ( source Free Malaysia Today)
With this accomplishment, Azizulhasni’s previous national record of 9.523 seconds from the 2023 Asian Cycling Championships was surpassed.
After winning silver and bronze in the keirin event at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Games, respectively, Azizulhasni expressed his desire to finish the medal count at the next Games, according to a previous AFP story. ( source Free Malaysia Today)
Despite having heart surgery in 2022, the well-known keirin speedster continues to thrive after his Olympic gold medal. After defeating Luca Spiegel of Germany in the second round in 9.885 seconds, Azizulhasni earned a spot in the 1/16 round, which is set for 11.30 p.m. ( source Free Malaysia Today)
However in the 1/32 repechage round, Shah Firdaus was eliminated after falling only 0.043 seconds short of Lithuania’s Vasilijus Lende. Nurul Izzah Asri, a women’s track cyclist, crashed out of the keirin event in the repechage round, preventing her from making it to the quarterfinals. ( source Free Malaysia Today)
