25th December: Authorities are investigating the deaths of several cats on the University of Malaya (UM) campus, following reports of animal cruelty. The university’s Animal Association (UMAA) reported that at least five cats were found dead under suspicious circumstances.
UMAA President, Dr. Farah Diba, expressed concern over the incidents, stating that the cats showed signs of poisoning. She urged the university community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The university’s administration condemned the acts, emphasizing their commitment to animal welfare and the safety of campus animals.
They have increased security patrols and are cooperating fully with the police investigation. Animal rights groups have also expressed outrage, calling for stricter enforcement of animal cruelty laws and urging witnesses to come forward with information. The police have assured the public that they are taking the matter seriously and are working diligently to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
They have appealed to anyone with relevant information to contact the authorities immediately. The incidents have sparked widespread concern among students and staff, with many calling for enhanced measures to protect campus animals and prevent future occurrences, as stated in Malaymail.
