Pregnant woman killed, 5 injured in three vehicle crash

TAWAU, Dec 2: A pregnant lady died and five people were wounded in a collision involving three cars this afternoon at Kilometer 45, Jalan Apas, near Kampung Nasib Kita, close here.

According to Berita Harian, Noor Aqila Ibrahim, 27, was certified deceased at the scene of the event at around 1.52 p.m.

The collision included two Toyota Vios and a Proton Saga utilised for e-hailing services, according to Tawau District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Peter Umbuas.

According to him, the accident occurred when the victim’s husband, Wan Ramzi Wan Omar, 27, was driving from Tawau to Semporna when he lost control, crashed into the road barrier, skidded into the other lane, and collided with a red Toyota Vios.

At the same moment, the Proton Saga car on the route was unable to avoid colliding with the victim’s vehicle.

“As a result, four passengers on theProton Saga were hurt,” he stated today in a statement.

Kuhan Neelamegan, 29, sustained internal bleeding, while Vasanthakumar Segaran, 29, and Shalini Thiagarajan, 30, both suffered bruising on their left legs, and the driver, Al Hafiz Mohd Basir, 26, was also gravely hurt.

The driver of the red Vios, a 61-year-old guy, and a 66-year-old male passenger, however, did not sustain any injuries, according to Peter.

“All of the injured patients were transported by ambulance to Tawau Hospital for further treatment. Additional investigations are currently being conducted in line with Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987,” he added.

Meanwhile, Tawau Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) head Julius John Stephen Jr said the department got an emergency call about the incident at 1.57pm and dispatched a team of seven personnel and an Emergency Services Assistance Unit (EMRS) vehicle to the scene.
