The recent cricket-themed film “Lubber Pandhu” has made a big splash in Tamil cinema, garnering widespread success. Actor Attakathi Dinesh plays the character “Gethu,” who is a skilled cricketer and an ardent admirer of Captain Vijayakanth. The movie is filled with nods to Vijayakanth’s films, including iconic songs and posters that reference his popular roles.
One of the most exciting moments for audiences is when Vijayakanth’s legendary opening song “Nee Pottu Vacha” from the 1989 hit “Ponmana Selvan” plays, which draws cheers in the theatre every time it is used. The film’s director, Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, revealed that he is a huge fan of Vijayakanth and described “Lubber Pandhu” as a tribute to the actor’s legacy.
Captain Vijayakanth’s wife, Premalatha Vijayakanth, was recently asked about the use of his songs in films. She shared her thoughts, saying, “The Captain’s impact in the movie is very significant. The song has been used wonderfully, and it’s heartwarming to see it celebrated in this film. The song is now gaining renewed popularity everywhere.”
She went on to add, “In the upcoming IPL season, they might play the ‘Nee Pottu Vacha’ song when MS Dhoni makes his entrance. No matter who uses the Captain’s songs or posters, we won’t be demanding any copyright. Vijayakanth doesn’t belong to just us; he belongs to the people.”
