Protest in France Against Atrocities on Minority Hindus in Bangladesh

13th OCTOBER: On October 11, 2024, an extraordinary protest took place in Paris, organized by the Paris Mahamaya Puja Parishad, in response to the ongoing persecution of minority Hindus, Buddhists, and Adibasi tribals in Bangladesh.
The protest was held during the annual Durga Puja celebration, which has been organized by the Parishad since 2020. Thousands of participants joined the event, highlighting the concern among Hindus in France for the vulnerable situation faced by their community in Bangladesh.
The protest focused on the brutal attacks on Hindus, including the vandalism of temples, kidnapping of young girls, forced conversions, rapes, and the seizure of properties. These atrocities have continued for decades, with increased violence following the resignation of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024.
During the protest, candles were lit to symbolize the fight against evil and a minute’s silence was observed in remembrance of the innocent lives lost since 1971. Prominent figures such as Mr. Sukanta Sarkar, President of the Parishad, and Mr. Amar Mazumder, General Secretary, addressed the crowd.
They emphasized the urgent need for the Bangladesh government to protect its minority communities.Shri Sukanta Sarkar called for immediate action to stop the ethnic cleansing of Hindus, while Purna Sharma strongly condemned the surge in violence after Sheikh Hasina’s resignation.
Dipan Mitra, President of the World Hindu Federation’s European Union Chapter, appealed for global support for the oppressed Hindus, urging fair trials and justice for the victims.The protest stands as a significant call to end the atrocities against religious minorities in Bangladesh.
