24th August 2024 – Putrajaya has announced a new initiative to enhance interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among students. The government plans to bring 100 scientists to 100 schools across Malaysia within 100 days. This effort is part of the “100 Scientists to 100 Schools in 100 Days” program, aimed at sparking students’ curiosity and passion for STEM fields.
The initiative will involve scientists engaging directly with students through various activities, including talks, demonstrations, and interactive sessions. The program is designed to make STEM subjects more appealing and relatable by showcasing real-world applications and career opportunities.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek emphasized that this initiative is crucial for equipping the next generation with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. By connecting students with accomplished scientists, the government hopes to inspire more young people to pursue STEM careers.
The program will be implemented in both urban and rural schools, ensuring that students from all backgrounds have the opportunity to benefit from this initiative. The selection of schools will be based on factors such as the level of existing STEM engagement and the potential impact of the program.
The government also aims to address the gender gap in STEM fields by encouraging more female students to participate in the program. This initiative represents a significant step toward fostering a culture of innovation and scientific inquiry among Malaysia’s youth, as stated in Malaymail .
