KUALA LUMPUR 7TH AUGUST : The Taman Sri Sinar Community Hall’s demolition is a result of unauthorized habitation of public land, not a sporting issue.
Hannah Yeoh, the minister of sports, made this statement followed the viral social media footage of an excavator destroying a building and an enraged audience. It was not a matter of race or athletics, she remarked as stated in Free Malaysia Today.
“Today, the Kuala Lumpur Land Office and DBKL attempted to demolish illegal structures adjacent to the Taman Sri Sinar Community Hall. This hall has been occupied by an unauthorised operator without approval, depriving local residents of a community space,” she said. (source New Strait Times)
She continued, saying that for almost a year, DBKL, the local body in charge of community halls, had been attempting to regain management of the space. According to her, the endeavor is a component of a larger campaign in Kuala Lumpur aimed at guaranteeing that community halls are open to all citizens and are not controlled by a particular group. “The issue at hand is dealing with the unauthorized use of public property. We have received notification that the operator has been granted a 30-day grace period by the Kuala Lumpur Land Office to relocate their belongings.” (source New Strait Times)
She claimed that despite multiple warnings to leave the building, the operator disregarded them.
