Rescue Team Uses ‘Jetting’ Technique to Detect Object Stuck in Drain Near Wisma Yakin

By Subaashinee Kupusamy,

KUALA LUMPUR, 26 August: The Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) team is currently using the ‘jetting’ technique, which involves high-pressure water spraying, to clear a blockage in a sewer near Wisma Yakin.

According to Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, the search and rescue (SAR) team detected a hard object stuck in the sewer between 3 to 6 a.m. today.

“Earlier this morning, we deployed a crawler camera into the sewer system at Wisma Yakin, covering a distance of 4 meters. We observed fragments resembling hard bricks, and we are continuing to use jetting to break down these fragments. The water will flow downwards, potentially clearing the path for any object, including a human body, to pass through,” Sulizmie stated during a press conference.

He added that the process will remain focused on this particular drain until the blockage is successfully cleared.

Regarding the ‘flushing’ technique that has been ongoing since yesterday, Sulizmie confirmed that it is still being conducted across 10 sewer manholes. However, no new leads on the missing victim’s whereabouts have been discovered.

“The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and IWK are continuing to flush each manhole in stages, and dilution efforts at the IWK Sewage Treatment Plant in Pantai Dalam are ongoing. But there are no new indications so far,” he said.

IWK’s Chief Executive Officer, Narendran Maniam, mentioned that the crawler camera being used can reach depths of up to 100 meters between sewer manholes.

The incident occurred last Friday morning when a 48-year-old tourist, Vijayaletchumy, went missing after falling into an eight-meter-deep hole caused by land subsidence on Jalan Masjid India as stated in Buletin TV3.
