Rosmah convicted of corruption

Kuala Lumpur, September 1: Rosmah Mansor was found to be guilty of all three charges of corruption in relation to the RM1.25 billion solar energy project for rural schools in Sarawak.  

As per High Court judge Zaini Mazlan, the prosecution demonstrated its case far above a reasonable hesitation. 

The 70-year-old Rosmah was accused of bribing the former Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd chief executive Saidi Abang Samsudin with RM187.5 million through her former assistant Rizal Mansor in exchange for her assistance in getting the solar project approved. – Free Malaysia Today 

She was also accused of accepting bribes worth RM 5 million from Saidi, via Rizal, on December 20, 2016, at Seri Perdana in Putrajaya.  

Rosmah was also alleged of obtaining an additional RM1.5 million from Saidi on September 7, 2017, in Jalan Langgak Duta. 

As stated by Free Malaysia Today, she was accused of violating Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, and if found guilty, she could spend up to 20 years in prison and pay a fine of at least RM10,000 or five times the sum of the gratification, whichever is greater. 

The lawyers for Rosmah, Jagjit Singh and Akberdin Abdul Kader, will now present mitigation regarding Rosmah’s conviction.
