7th September 2024 – A 36-year-old traffic officer from Seremban has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after suffering severe head injuries caused by a collision with a 17-year-old Mat Rempit.
The incident occurred on July 28 during an operation targeting illegal street racing activities. The officer was hit by the teenager, who was riding his motorcycle against traffic in an attempt to flee the scene. The impact left the officer unconscious, and he was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Upon regaining consciousness, the officer experienced memory loss and other cognitive difficulties, preventing him from returning to work. Although discharged from the hospital on August 16, his recovery is still ongoing. The extent of his injuries has raised concerns about the long-term effects on his health and ability to resume his duties.
The 17-year-old Mat Rempit involved in the accident is currently under investigation and could face charges under the Road Transport Act 1987. If convicted, he could receive a prison sentence of up to five years and be subjected to fines for dangerous driving.
The authorities are using this incident as a reminder of the risks and dangers associated with illegal street racing, particularly when riders defy traffic regulations, endangering both themselves and law enforcement officers.
The case highlights the growing concern over Mat Rempit culture in Malaysia and the need for stricter enforcement measures to curb such activities and protect both officers and the public, as stated in World of Buzz.
