Kuala Lumpur, 25th Jan 2021: Big thank you by Hindu community to Malaysia government in agreement for chariot travel from the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Jalan Bandar, Kuala Lumpur, to Batu Caves on Jan 27 and make its return journey on Jan 29, and Kuala Lumpur City Hall is to monitor the journey to make sure it adheres to the stipulated conditions and procedures.
Federal Territories minister Annuar Musa said yesterday that the chariot procession was allowed with respect to the Hindu community and the journey is approved without any stop. From the criticism of having a Thaipusam cluster, everyone in Malaysia is aware of the pandemic and so is the Hindu community. There shall be no procession joined by the public as only 10 committee members are allowed to travel along with the chariot, he added.
Annuar’s special officer, Subash Chandrabose Arumugam Pillai mentioned that the customary chariot moving at 7 pm and reaching at 1 pm, the next day is not happening as a result of the pandemic hit. In contrast, Chariot bringing Lord Muruga will start its journey at 3 am and reaching Batu Caves at 6 am without any stops with strict adherence to the SOP monitored by the city hall, DBKL.
All public celebrations ordered to be called-off as the country is declared a state of emergency. This decision by the King is also to curb the spread of Covid-19 which is in its growth to thousands of cases currently.
