Singaporeans Face Action for Unpaid Malaysian Summonses Starting Jan 1

By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran,

23rd August 2024 – Starting January 1, 2024, Singaporeans with outstanding traffic summonses in Malaysia will face stricter enforcement measures. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) announced that they would take action against those who have failed to settle their fines.

This move comes after numerous warnings and campaigns urging Singaporean drivers to clear their unpaid summonses, which include fines for various traffic offenses committed within Malaysian borders.

The PDRM has emphasized that these measures aim to ensure better compliance with traffic laws and maintain road safety. Singaporean motorists are encouraged to check their records and resolve any outstanding fines before the new year to avoid complications. The enforcement will likely include barring entry into Malaysia for those with unsettled fines and potentially more severe legal repercussions.

Authorities have set up several channels for offenders to pay their fines conveniently, including online portals and payment at border checkpoints. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance road safety and cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore, as stated in New Straits Times.
