Sivabalan Arumugam Sets Record with Mesmerizing 100-Shade Kolam at NU Sentral

18 October: Sivabalan Arumugam, a renowned Kolam artist and founder of Life Creation Event Planner and Life Creation Rangoli Kolam, has made history once again by entering the Malaysia Book of Records for crafting a Rangoli Kolam with the “Most Colours in a Single Rangoli.” This vibrant masterpiece, created at NU Sentral to celebrate Deepavali, spans 20 by 25 feet and features an astounding 100 distinct shades.
The kolam, entirely designed by Sivabalan himself, took two days to complete and required 150 kilograms of coloured rice. In an interview with Astro Ulagam, Sivabalan shared his long-standing passion for the art, stating, “I’ve been passionate about creating Kolam since the age of 10. This record is the culmination of years of dedication and love for this traditional art form.”
Though he completed the design on his own, Sivabalan acknowledged the essential support of his team in preparing the materials. “My team was my backbone throughout this process. They mixed the colours and handed them over to me during the creation of the kolam,” he said.
Despite his personal achievement, Sivabalan expressed concern about the declining interest in Kolam among younger generations. “This art is part of our culture, and it can be learned. Unfortunately, many young people are hesitant to try, even though there is guidance available,” he noted.
Sivabalan’s breathtaking creation serves not only as a personal triumph but also as a testament to the beauty of Malaysia’s cultural heritage. His dedication and artistry continue to inspire, ensuring that the rich tradition of Kolam lives on. Congratulations, Sivabalan, for making Malaysia proud as stated in Astro Ulagam.
