KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8: The Singapore High Court has granted a stay of execution in the case of Malaysian Nagaenthran K Dharmalingam, who was to be executed on Wednesday.

“The High Court has just ordered a stay of execution pending the hearing of the appeal to the Court of Appeal against the decision of the High Court,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Nagaenthran was convicted in 2011 of illegally importing 42.72 grams of diamorphine and sentenced to death under the draconian Misuse of Drugs Act.
On Oct 28, Nagaenthran’s mother who is from Ipoh, received a letter dated 26 Oct 2021 from the Singapore Prison Service informing her that her son would be executed on 10th November 2021.
Earlier, Malaysian rights group Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) urged the Singapore government to stop the execution of mentally disabled Malaysian citizen Nagaenthran Dharmalingam scheduled on 10 November.
LFL advisor N Surendran said that Nagaenthran is no ordinary death row prisoner as the former suffers from mental disability, with an IQ of 69.
