State PKR Leader: Boycott Suggestion for Sabah Polls Using GRS Logo is a Personal Idea
By Shantini Mogan
KUALA LUMPUR 30 AUGUST:Calls from national parties to abstain from the next state elections or run under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) banner have been rejected by Sabah PKR, who described them as “personal opinions” that do not represent the party’s position.
Razeef Rakimin, the chief of Sabah PKR’s information department, stated that these recommendations did not represent the official views of GRS and did not require a formal response. “From our perspective, that is not GRS’s position. We think GRS will use good judgment and select what’s best for themself,” Razeef remarked.
He was reacting to a statement made by Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, the leader of the GRS component party, who suggested that national parties should boycott the upcoming elections and that GRS should run in all 73 seats.”We feel this statement is inappropriate,” Razeef stated. Sabah PKR was founded in April 1999 alongside the national party, despite having a national focus.
“We are all Sabahans, and we have been here with Sabah’s interest in mind,” he continued.Regarding Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan’s suggestion that GRS-affiliated parties run for office using the same GRS emblem, Razeef stated that PKR Sabah has not given the idea any thought as of yet.”Any contesting decision would be deliberated upon and declared following the dissolution of the State Assembly.
“Our partners’ offers and theirs will also be taken into consideration,” he stated.Razeef stated that PKR Sabah now has positive relationships with both GRS and BN in spite of the proposals.”In the unity government with BN, we function exceptionally well both nationally and at the state level. Though I’m not sure if BN leaders feel the same way, we don’t have any problems with them,” he stated.
Following the withdrawal of support for chief minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor by BN’s Umno leaders, GRS and PH have been in power as the state government from January 2023.Razeef also informed reporters that Sabah’s next Malaysia Agreement 1963 meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on October 12th.
On September 16, Malaysia Day, he will return. In October, he is also expected to travel by car (jelajah) around Sabah’s east coast by Malay mail.
