The Global Human Rights Federation (GHRF) expresses grave concern over a TikTok video featuring a conversation between a secondary school teacher and preacher Firdaus Wong. The video, which has sparked widespread outrage, depicts the teacher seeking advice on converting minors to Islam without parental consent. Preacher Wong’s suggestion to discreetly convert minors and avoid registering the conversions raises serious ethical and legal issues. This practice not only disregards parental rights as outlined in Malaysia’s Federal Constitution but also compromises the sincerity of religious conversions. GHRF condemns these actions and urges the Ministry of Education, JAKIM, and other relevant bodies to thoroughly investigate and address this matter to protect the rights of minors and maintain ethical standards in religious practices.
