KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12: United Malaysian Hindu Voice (UMHV) has demanded that strong action should be taken against controversial preacher Zakir Naik for insulting Malaysian Hindus.
“Zakir Naik had made an irresponsible remark in his recent speech in Kota Bharu when he compared the Hindus in Malaysia to the Muslims in India,” its president J. Prevind said in a statement.
“He (Zakir) )had claimed that Malaysian Hindus enjoyed more than 100% rights in Malaysia compared to Muslims in India.
“He further said that it was unfortunate that Hindus in Malaysia, despite the benefits, are more loyal to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi than to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“UMHV condemns Zakir Naik’s statement which can cause religious tension in this country.
Malaysian Hindu community have made great sacrifices and contributions to the nation,” Prevind said.
He added that Zakir Naik, who is wanted by Indian authorities on charges of money laundering and terrorism-related offences, has no rights to criticize Malaysian Hindus.
“UMHV strongly believes that Zakir Naik’s presence in this country is a threat to the country’s racial and religious relations.
“UMHV also urges the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to extradite Zakir to his home country in order to be charged in the Indian court,” he said.
