By Subaashinee Kupusamy,

23 SEPTEMBER: A tapir that fell into a drain in Kampung Padang Bukit, Lubok Stol, Kelantan, was rescued by the Kelantan Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) after reportedly wandering 30 kilometers from the Jedok Forest Reserve.

PERHILITAN Kelantan Director, Mohamad Hafid Rohani, stated that the department received a call from the public around 1 PM. Officers from the Kota Bharu district swiftly arrived at the scene to carry out the rescue, supported by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and local villagers.

The tapir was found in stable condition and was relocated to a suitable habitat later that day. Mohamad Hafid advised the public to exercise caution when encountering wildlife and avoid taking any actions that could endanger their safety.

Any reports or sightings of wildlife should be directed to PERHILITAN’s hotline at 1-800-88-5151 or through their online e-aduan portal at www.wildlife.gov.my as stated in Buletin TV3.
