Teacher Pleads Not Guilty to Sexual Assault Charges Against Male Student

4 SEPTEMBER: A secondary school teacher pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to four charges of physical sexual assault against a male student last year.
The accused, Mohd Hamdi Hanafi, 47, entered his plea after the charges were read before Judge Nazlyza Mohamad Nazri.
According to the charges, the accused is alleged to have committed physical sexual assault on the 15-year-old victim on four occasions. The incidents reportedly took place in a car and a house in Dungun on August 3 and August 10, 2023.
For these offenses, the accused is charged under two counts of Section 14(a) and two counts of Section 14(b) of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16 of the same act. If convicted, he faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and caning.
Following his not guilty plea, the court scheduled the case for mention on October 6 to allow for the submission of relevant documents.
The court granted the accused bail of RM60,000 for all charges. Additionally, the accused was ordered not to contact the victim or any prosecution witnesses and to report to the nearest police station every month.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Noradila Ab Latif handled the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Afiq Aziz as stated in Berita Harian.
