Toll Exemptions for Deepavali Celebrations

By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran

28th October: In conjunction with the Deepavali festivities, the Malaysian government has announced toll exemptions on specific highways. The exemptions will be in effect on Tuesday, October 29, and Wednesday, October 30, 2024. This initiative aims to ease travel for those returning to their hometowns to celebrate the festival of lights with family and friends.

The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) stated that the toll exemptions apply to several major highways across the country. This includes routes such as the North-South Expressway and other key thoroughfares. The decision is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance public convenience during significant cultural celebrations.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly, as heavy traffic is expected during this period. The LLM has also advised travelers to adhere to safety regulations and remain vigilant on the roads to ensure a smooth travel experience.

In addition to toll exemptions, various local authorities have implemented measures to manage traffic flow effectively. These measures include increased personnel at toll plazas and strategic traffic diversions where necessary.

As Deepavali approaches, families are reminded of the importance of celebrating together while ensuring safety on the roads. The toll exemptions are seen as a positive step towards facilitating this cherished tradition, allowing more Malaysians to partake in the festivities without the burden of travel costs, as stated in Free Malaysia Today.
