By Loshinniy Nair S. Baskaran,

29th October: A lorry driver tragically lost his life following an accident involving an oil tanker on the North-South Expressway (NSE) near the Simpang Ampat area in Malacca. The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on October 29, 2024, when the oil tanker, traveling southbound, veered off the highway and plunged into a ditch.

Emergency services responded promptly, with firefighters from the Malacca Fire and Rescue Department dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered the lorry driver trapped inside his vehicle, which had collided with the oil tanker. Despite their efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The oil tanker driver sustained injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the cause of the tanker losing control.

Witnesses reported that the oil tanker appeared to be speeding before it veered off course. The incident caused significant traffic disruptions on the NSE, prompting police to redirect vehicles while they cleared the wreckage.

This tragic event highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety on Malaysia’s highways, particularly involving heavy vehicles. Authorities urge all drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits to prevent such devastating accidents in the future, as stated in The Star.
